An Introduction to Bukit Jalil

Bukit Jalil

Bukit Jalil, strategically located between Sri Petaling to the east and Puchong to the southwest, is a suburb about 20 kms south of Kuala Lumpur and famed for its hosting of the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Prior to the development of the National Sports Complex for the Commonwealth Games, it was formerly known as the Bukit Jalil Estate until 1992.

Residential Areas

There are an abundance of condominiums and apartments in Bukit Jalil such as Jalil Damai, Green Avenue, Greenfields, Arena Green, Vista Commonwealth, Mutiara Bukit Jalil, The Treez and Savannah, as well as landed property projects such as the Esplanade and Jalil Sutera.

Transportation

Bukit Jalil has superb accessibility to many parts of Klang Valley owing to several highways such as the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP), Shah Alam Expressway, Maju Expressway (MEX) and New Pantai Expressway. From the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, the STAR LRT Bukit Jalil station on the Sri Petaling Line transports passengers to the end stations of Sri Petaling, Ampang or Sentul Timur. Bukit Jalil is still hosting a temporary bus station for southbound buses even after the Puduraya Bus Station had completed its make-over in April 2011. Puduraya now serves northbound buses.

Amenities & Facilities

Learning institutions located in Bukit Jalil area include International Medical University (IMU), Technology Park Malaysia (TPM), the Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) and the Asia Pacific University College of Technology & Innovation (UCTI).

Bukit Jalil is very near to Sri Petaling, where other amenities like schools, clinics, petrol stations, eateries, shops and Carrefour hypermarket are conveniently within reach.

The National Sports Complex

Bukit Jalil is home to the National Sports Complex which is also the venue of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, a 26,000 sq ft multi-purpose stadium that was built to host the 1998 Commonwealth Games, and widely regarded as the best and biggest in the country. There are four other stadiums placed within this complex, which are the National Aquatic Centre, National Squash Centre, National Hockey Stadium and the Putra Indoor Stadium. There is also a Family Park and International Garden. Many sports events, international concerts and corporate activities are carried out in this premises.

Other Attractions

Although not a very big area itself, there are other interesting attractions in Bukit Jalil such as the Commonwealth Hill, Family Park, Royal Malaysian Air Force Museum, the Selangor Turf Club. Also there is the Bukit Jalil Golf and Country Resort, a 165-acre lush tropical greenery (one can also enjoy tennis, as well as indoor karaoke and bowling), Xtion Paintball Park for youths or the adventurous adults and Endah Parade shopping complex, which is located nearby the Bukit Jalil LRT station.

For food lovers, there are Oriental Pearl Restaurant (in Bukit Jalil Golf & Country Resort), Jalil Seafood Restoran, Kin No Uma Japanese Restaurant which serves sashimi, teppanyaki and sushi and Cavallini’s Italian Restaurant to satisfy their tastebuds.

Economy & Development

The economic outlook of Bukit Jalil is bright given the various projects that serve to boost the commercial and social activities of the township, among them the Bukit Jalil Light Industrial Park. The country's satellite broadcaster, Astro, is also situated in Bukit Jalil along the Puchong-Sg Besi Highway.
