GSB Sentral and MRCB to plant 1,000 trees within Kuala Lumpur Sentral and 348 Sentral
Eco-friendly developer does it the practical way
Aug 18, 2009

GSB Sentral Sdn Bhd and Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad recently pledged to plant 1,000 trees within the Kuala Lumpur Sentral and 348 Sentral developments. Additionally, GSB Sentral has also committed to plant another 1,000 trees over a period of time as a part of MRCB’s greening effort at Kuala Lumpur Sentral development and Jalan Tun Sambanthan.

Federal Territories minister Yang Berhormat Senator Dato’ Raja Nong Chik bin Dato’ Raja Zainal Abidin who was present to officiate the event says, “The greening of KL Sentral and 348 Sentral developments is part of our efforts on sustainable development. This step of planting more trees within Kuala Lumpur will contribute to a better environment and help address the carbon footprint of the city.”

“This effort should serve as an example of the many ways that we can make integrated developments greener and healthier by being conscious of a greener environment. It is always difficult for developers to adopt new approaches to construction but it is a challenge that we are willing to face,” added Encik Shahril Ridzuan, group managing director of MRCB.

Using 348 Sentral as an example of an eco-friendly project, director of GSB Sentral Mohd Imran Dato’ Mohammad Salim said that there is also a need to preserve nature and the environment in a sustainable manner besides developing attractive and energy saving buildings.

348 Sentral is built on the green concept and is envisioned to pursue the Green Building Index (GBI) Malaysia Gold rating and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Environment Building Accreditation.

Yang Berhormat Senator Dato’ Raja Nong Chik and Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Ahmad Fuad bin Ismail, mayor of Kuala Lumpur, saw the planting of two trees of the plumeria species, more commonly known as frangipani trees, at the entrance of Sooka Sentral lifestyle centre, KL Sentral during the announcement.
