Idea House – A sustainable house for now and the future
May 15, 2010
The Sime Darby Group through its property arm, Sime Darby Property Berhad recently sealed technical collaboration agreements with some of the world's leading green technology and solutions providers for its Sime Darby Idea House project. The first-of-its-kind in South East Asia, the Sime Darby Idea House was conceived as a test bed for new ideas in sustainable architecture, from which Sime Darby Property hopes to incorporate into future development in their townships, according to its group chief executive and president Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zubir Murshid.

The Idea House is a carbon-neutral dwelling to demonstrate how sustainable housing can be developed to minimize mankind’s impact on our deteriorating environmental. Essentially, the house has been designed with void spaces that can either be filled or removed depending on the family living arrangement. Some of the green building technologies that will be incorporated are 100% recyclable roof system, rainwater harvesting system, FSC certified timber products, certified energy efficient appliances, CFL and LED lighting system, environmentally-friendly light bulbs, solar panels, and 100% recyclable kitchen cabinets, among others.
