The government will organise state-level roadshows to explain the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) in a way for it to be better understood by the people, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He said the Cabinet had decided to "bring" the major economic development programmes that had been announced and would be announced through the ETP to the attention of the people.
"We will explain the development programmes through the community leaders, penghulu and village heads," he said in his speech at a dinner function of the Barisan Nasional State Assemblymen's Club.
He said the roadshows would be organised in the states covering specific zones.
"What is important is for the major development programmes to proceed accordingly with the aim of meeting the objective of making Malaysia a high-income nation by 2020.
"If these are not understood properly, the people at large and the voters will not be able to evaluate them judiciously," he said.
The ETP is driven by 12 National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs) which focus on various industries with 131 entry point projects (EPPs) outlined by the government to bring the country's economy to a higher level.
Eighty-two per cent of the EPPs have started operating with the rest at various stages of development.
Muhyiddin said the people needed to be informed and be made to understand that the effects of the initiatives under the ETP would be enjoyed by all levels of society.
He said although 12 sectors had been identified as NKEAs, the other sectors would not be neglected.
Muhyiddin, who is also BN deputy chairman, said much had been achieved since the ETP was launched a year ago but the ordinary folk might not realise this as it was still early.
"But we have to explain clearly and in detail the areas we want to develop, the projects we want to implement, who will be developing them, the investments involved, the investors, when the projects will shart and finish, who will benefit from these projects and so on," he said. - Bernama
