A total of 776 settlers from Felda Umas, Tawau will be awarded a land grant for 5.6ha each by year-end, said Minister in the Chief Minister's Office Datuk Nasir Tun Sakaran.

He advised the settlers to cultivate the land with oil palm or rear livestock to generate income.

Nasir, who is the state minister in charge of Felda affairs, was speaking to reporters after attending the breaking of fast at the Nurul Hidayah Anjung Teduh Mosque, Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu.

He, however, advised the settlers to get closer and help from Felda to ensure that any problems related to the development of their land could be overcome.

On grants for 1,647 settlers in Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu, Nasir, who is also Senalang assemblyman, said they were being processed and would be granted in the near term.

Nasir later presented financial aid to settlers from Felda Anjung Teduh Sahabat 1 to 5, Muslim converts, orphans, disabled people, single mothers and ailing settlers at the function.
